• Section Class II-III (moderate): La Virgen This trip starts at the community of La Virgen de Sarapiquí, one of the most important in the area. The section runs through impressive rainforest which towers over the banks of the river, exhilarating sections of Class II-III whitewater, clear pools of water, and the trip takes place amongst a wide range of flora and fauna. The section is excellent for people who want to participate in rafting for the first time and want exciting and challenging rapids with whitewater, as well for people with previous experience in rafting. To run this section, the minimum recommended age is 10 years of age, and for older adults it is important to consider physical condition and previous experience. We do not recommend the participation of adults older than 60 without previous experience. The whole section (La Virgen- Chilamate) is 7 miles (11 kms) long and normally takes about 2 ½ hours. It includes a brief stop with a fruit buffet and time to swim. If the trip includes lunch, it would take about 4 hrs overall. Aventuras del Sarapiquí is located along the scenic Sarapiquí River in the tropical lowlands of northern Costa Rica. Flowing freely from two of Costa Rica’s volcanic national parks and running alongside primary rainforest, the Sarapiquí is one of the most pristine and cleanest rivers in Costa Rica. Access to the river is very easy and a good paved road runs safely nearby, although not visible from the river. •
Section Class II (easy): La Linda This section is quite convenient for families with children younger than 10 who still want a bit of action. No experience is required and physical condition is not a problem. We also recommend La Linda section for groups of older adults who want a very safe trip. The whole run is surrounded by incredible scenery, countless birds, reptiles, and an overwhelming amount of plant diversity. Both sections, La Virgen and La Linda, finish at the Aventuras Del Sarapiquí outpost in Chilamate, where lunch is served for those groups that would like it included in their trip. Bathrooms, showers, changing rooms and other facilities are available at the base.
